The first mention of the Marsica region is found in the text written by Febonio, around the 7th century AD. Thanks to its strategic position, in relation to the Peninsula and the region, the region has always have been extremely important. The sentence “nor against the Marsi, nor without them” it is still today used to identify the resolution of the Marsican population.  

The region, formed by 37 towns and inhabited by 130.000 thousand people, is mainly driven by agriculture – thanks to the Fucino plain and the several hundred agricultural companies – the industrial center of Avezzano and, especially in the recent years, tourism.
