National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise

Description

The National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise was opened in 1922 and it is one of Italy’s most ancient parks. It consists of a group of mountain chains that reach 2,200 meters above sea level.

The landscape is extremely diversified: there are rounded peaks and steep slopes. The central area is cut by the Sangro Fiume, while the more outer part is crossed by the Giovenco, Melfa, and Volturno rivers. Within the National Park you will find the evocative natural amphitheater of the Camosciara.

The park is important on the international scene thanks to the preservations of some of the most important animals of Abruzzo, like the wolf, the Marsican bear, and the chamois.

Every year, nature enthusiasts hold many different organizations aimed to protect the environment, and there are many activities join by people from all over the country.
