The “Carota dell’Altopiano del Fucino IGP” is a vegetable that belongs to the Daucus carota L. special and derive from the varieties Maestro, Presto, Concerto, Napoli, Nandor e Dordogne.
In 2007, this carrot received an IGP certification, i.e., “Typical Geographical Indication”, making it the most important product of the area. It soon conquered the international markets as well. The carrots grow in an area that once used to be covered by water, at about 700 mts above sea level. The soil is extremely fertile, gifting the product with a high vitamin and protein content. It can be stored for quite a long time and is packed with carotene, a substance that our body uses to produce vitamin A - especially important for our sight.
This carrot is characterized by a cylindrical shape with a rounded tip, it doesn’t have hair on the top and its color is an intense, uniform orange. It is sweet and crunchy, and it is mostly used for salad, but also to make juices and pureed soups.
